Explain children's ages, routines, duties, hours and the level of responsibility before a match is accepted.

If driving is required, say so early. The family must provide appropriate insurance and cover programme-related vehicle costs.

Personal Time

These are typical costs that families budget for during the placement. They are guidelines, and not included in the agency fees.
US partner fee
Approximately $9,500
Paid separately to our American programme partner. It covers sponsor processing fees, insurance and travel arrangements.
Weekly au pair stipend
Set by the U.S. programme
Host families should budget for the required weekly au pair compensation under the programme that applies to their placement.
Room and meals
Provided by the family
Your au pair lives with you and must receive suitable private accommodation and meals.
Transport and driving
Depends on your family
If your au pair drives, budget for appropriate insurance, fuel and any other transport arrangements.
What if I don’t get matched?
If we cannot find you a suitable match, you will not be charged the programme fee.

How hosting works in the USA
Christian Au Pairs performs recruitment, assessment and personal matching. Once you and an au pair choose one another, our authorized US programme partner completes the sponsor and legal programme processing.

Frequently asked questions
How long will the process take?
This depends very much on the time of year as availability is at its greatest in January or the summer. But we have au pairs available most months. Our regular families plan several months ahead to get the best options. We help new families to plan subsequent au pairs carefully.
Will the au pair attend our church?
The au pair will usually want to accompany you to your church to begin with. But if the church does not have many young people, for example, they might want to join a more suitable church for their spiritual connections in the neighbourhood.
Will the au pair pray with my children and look after them at bedtimes?
Yes, the au pair expects that taking a spiritual interest in your children is part of the mission.
Will they be able to drive our car?
It is common for our au pairs to have a drivers license which allows them to drive in the USA. They are expected to have some experience of driving with children, but you will need to pay the insurance.
Who do I contact if things are not going well?
You will be supported monthly by a local representative, as will your au pair. You can contact them at any time. We will also be available to you for practical or spiritual support.
What about medical and travel for the au pair?
All of the medical and other insurances are covered in your annual fee, as is the cost of flights and transit to your local airport.
What about taxes?
Au pairs are generally non-resident, and therefore their host families would be exempt from paying federal unemployment taxes on their au pair wages.
What background checks do you make on the au pairs?
In addition to all of the usual checks – medical, educational, childcare, character – we contact their pastor, minister or youth leader, whichever one knows them best. We pay attention to their church attendance and how much they are involved in the life of the church.
Do your au pairs all speak English?
We expect a good level of English from all of our au pairs. Most of them are extremely fluent and well-educated.
Will the au pair be trained before they start?
All of our au pairs go through a two-week training programme online. This is in addition to the 200 hours of verifiable experience which they are required to have.

Working-hour limits, weekly payment, education, flights, insurance, coordinator services, holidays and other regulated programme details are confirmed against the selected authorised US partner's current terms before a placement becomes binding.
